Mr. Gyros

The Gyro Plate, an enormous meal of beef and lamb, rice, hummus, peppers, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce with two pitas, was still less than $7.00. It’s still the best gyro in town, and Mr. Gyros is still the quintessential neighborhood restaurant.

Persimmon

I am zipping around Lenny’s produce, dodging other shoppers in the crowded store as I fill my basket with vegetables for the coming week, when I see the luminous yellow fruit, shaped like a flattened heirloom tomato. They are beautiful, and I’m a sucker for fruits and vegetables that I haven’t tried before. The sign says that they are persimmons. Continue reading
